Answer by DR + Mrs Bears faceThey look like common toys of the time.
I was born later than the 40s but had dolls like this passed onto me by older cousins. I didn’t like them very much. They were shaped like babies so you couldn’t make them nice clothes only baby clothes.
I preferred the later teenage dolls.

Is the childs tea pot set I have Kewpie? “Japan” is carved in back of teapot, so I’m confused.?

Question by jul s: Is the childs tea pot set I have Kewpie? “Japan” is carved in back of teapot, so I’m confused.?
I got this child’s vintage tea set…the cups and tea pot are all a molded baby face and hand painted and feel of ceramic or maybe even bisque. They look like Kewpie doll faces, but on the back of the teapot it is carved “JAPAN”. Anyone familiar with what this set could be? I just can’t find it anywhere online and normally I can find most anything! The set is a mini size, a babydoll size set. Thanks for any info you may have!

looking for a sewing pattern

Question by nedoglover: looking for a sewing pattern
My mom is planning on making a nativity set (Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, and three Wise men). She has bisque heads and hands and plans on making the bodies. We are looking for patterns for the clothes of these dolls. It would be great if they were online and could just be downloaded for free but we really need something with raglan (sp), not inset, sleeves. I have been looking and I can’t find anything. Thanks in advance!!

Best answer:

Answer by kayRaglan sleeves wouldn’t be “period” — something closer to T tunics would be closer to the originals.

Unknown old, fragile dolls?

Question by Kimi: Unknown old, fragile dolls?
Upon an emptying of my passed away grandmother’s house, my parents found a set of three, colored, tiny dolls. Two are about four inches in length, and one is two and a half inches. Each are covered in cloth, and the littlest has a tiny cloth diaper with tiny diaper pins. The cloth may be something my grandmother made. There’s no brand markings on them that I can find, and to be honest they’re a bit spooky. Big, painted eyes…. almost looks voodoo-ish. The hair is separated into three pieces tied with now-frayed string. I think they’re made of porcelain, or bisque, maybe clay.

If anyone can tell me what they are, if they’re worth keeping, . . . → Read More: Unknown old, fragile dolls?
